Manila Food and Beverage Expo 2008 opened last June 18 and will be shown until tomorrow. As usual, the World Trade Center was filled with enterprising exhibitors and guests.

The event included cooking competitions, seminars, food shows, and exhibitions by different players from the food industry from small franchises to raw material suppliers and from machine importers to big packaging outfits.

Aside from the major objective of getting equipment and supplier’s info through flyers and brochures for future business use, a food event is not a food event without the free food tasting. With a Php50 entrance fee, I have to make sure it was worth it. =) Although last year’s Mafbex had more generous exhibitors, this year was still ok. Cakes here, cakes there. Sad thing they were enclosed behind see-through cold storages with a hefty price tag.

Sweets, chocolate fondue, chocolate making demo and art cakes were also spotted.

There were areas specially for other asian products such as Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Korea. There were dine areas too for those wanting a break and a bite such as Yellow Cab and ‘COke’ areas.

There were caterer table setups, cake ‘painting’ and an ice carving competition towards the end of the second day.

I concluded the event with a 127gm serving of a pistachio flavored gelato being sold by the Philippine distributor of a gelato-making-machine worth Php850,000.
